The Chatterbox FRS-X2 is a communicator positioned inside the helmets of motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and race cars to let the rider talk on the phone, communicate with a passenger, listen for directions and other functions. The FRS-X2 is the company's second most-powerful communicator, according to Chatterbox, and comes in two styles: full face and open. - The Chatterbox FRS-X2 has a wide, illuminated display and is voice activated or push-to-talk, according to the company. It also has full duplex wired intercom capability, though the passenger headset and extension cable are sold separately. The FRS-X2 features mobile phone and audio inputs for navigation, music and radar, and automute. The communicator is protected by a durable, water-resistant casing.
The FRS-X2 is also equipped with noise-suppression microphones and high-fidelity speakers, according to Chatterbox. The X Series is powered by a built-in, rechargeable Ni-MH battery which lasts for 10 to 12 hours of use, and 20 hours of standby. The FRSX2 has a range of up to two miles, with 14 channels/talk groups. - The Chatterbox FRS-X2 can be accessorized with the Full-Face Noise-Reducing Headset/Mic, and the Open-Face Noise-Reducing Headset/Mic recommended for flip-up and modular helmets. The company also sells a Noise-Reducing Extension Cord to connect a passenger to the set-up. The cord also mounts the FRSX2 to a tankbag, saddlebag, handlebar or other stabilizing location.
Chatterbox sells an AC/DC Home Charger for the FRSX2, with input AC120V, 60Hz 11W, and output DC12V, 300m Ah, UL class 2. Replacement batteries are sold for the Rechargeable NI-MH battery pack with a 14-hour charge time, as well as a 12V power cord for recharging the battery with a vehicle battery. Chatterbox also sells a universal mobile phone cable with a 2.5 mm jack. - The Chatterbox FRS-X2 allows communication for up to two miles, depending on conditions. The noise reducing headsets allow riders to talk at higher speeds and the other times conditions are louder, according to Value-Accessories. The settings take practice to use when adjusting them to various levels of background noise.
In all, correctly assembling and installing an FRS-X2 results in convenient communication on the open highway or dirt track.
Open-faced and half-helmets require open face headsets. The speakers are secured to a half helmet's earflaps using Velcro. Most helmets are manufactured with cut-outs for speakers, though they may be covered by the lining, according to Value-Accessories.
The radios are not waterproof, but are water-resistant.
