- 1). Fill the large pot three quarters full with water. Set the pot on the stove top.
- 2). Disassemble your trumpet, and place each part that is lacquered into the pot of water. Set aside unlacquered pieces, such as the mouth guard.
- 3). Add two or three teaspoons of baking soda to your pot. Turn the temperature of your stove to high, and boil you pot of water for 20 minutes.
- 4). Put on your heavy work gloves. Remove each part of your trumpet from the pot of water and set them aside.
- 5). Peel away the lacquer using your fingers. The coating should come off easily. Use a cotton swab dabbed in nail polish remover to wipe away any stuck lacquer. Use a small brush to reach inside of the instrument and wipe away any lacquer there.
