- 1). Cut the out the piece of wire with the wire cutters were the damage has been done. Make sure that everything is unplugged, and try to make the cut as smooth and clean as possible.
- 2). Strip the exposed white, black and green wires. Strip the plastic coating off of each wire so that there is about 1-inch of bare wire remaining.
- 3). Attach the "male" plug (the one with prongs) to one exposed wire end. Following the wiring pattern on the male plug, thread the bare wire into the plug and unscrew all three contacts. On one contact, wrap a black wire around the screw, and tighten it down. On the other contact, wrap the white wire around the screw and tighten down. On the ground plug contact, wrap the green wire around the screw and tighten it down.
- 4). Attach the "female" plug (the one with holes to insert the prongs) to the other exposed wire end. Following the wiring pattern on the female plug, thread the bare wire into the plug and unscrew all three contacts. On one contact, wrap a black wire around the screw and tighten it down. On the other contact, wrap the white wire around the screw and tighten down. On the ground plug contact, wrap the green wire around the screw and tighten it down.
- 5). Plug the ends in together.
