Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson may have partied like it was 1799 back when Philadelphia served as the nation's first capital, but Philly nightlife has come a long way since then. Today, Philadelphians and tourists can catch their groove at hotspots across the city, from converted factories to four-masted ships. Whether you're staying in town for one night or looking for a new local place to party, try one of the nightclubs described below. - The owners of Shampoo took a 10,000-square-foot abandoned factory and converted it into five stories of bumping and grinding. DJs on each of the main dance floors spin a different genre nightly, so if you get tired of techno and want to chill out to Latin beats, you can just walk a flight of stairs to change venues. Annual special events include Shampoo's Dracula Ball, foam parties and, for all affianced couples, Shampoo welcomes your bachelor and bachelorette celebrations.

shampooonline.com - If you've never danced on a ship, head aboard the Moshulu. One of only a handful of four-mast sailing vessels left worldwide, this ship has remained docked at Philadelphia's Delaware Avenue waterfront since the 1970s.
During the late afternoons and early evenings, the staff provides table-service dinners and a bar. When the sun goes down, ship Moshulu lights up. Tables are pulled away to create a spacious dance floor, where 30-something-and-older crowds can dance to tunes played by DJs and live bands.

The owners of Woody's have subdivided its two floors into a number of rooms, bars and dance floors, some of which cater to the 21-and-under crowd.
Tucked into a back alley off Juniper Street, Sisters caters primarily to the ladies, although all genders are welcome. For a real treat, duck into Sisters during the annual Philadelphia Live Arts and Fringe Festival, when the club hosts cabaret events and musicals.
Both Woody's and Sisters lie in the colloquially called, "Gayborhood," a Center City area known for its LBGT-friendly restaurants, bars and living.

Pennsylvania's liquor laws require most bars and nightclubs to stop serving alcohol at 2:00 a.m. Clubs with an "after-hours" license, such as O.N.E., can keep the drinks flowing and the music pumping until 3:30 a.m. O.N.E.'s owners carved their club into a four-story mansion off Philadelphia's picturesque Rittenhouse Square. Order the bottle service for VIP treatment, or dance with friends in one of six different rooms.
