- 1). Measure the dimensions of the wooden box with a tape measure. Lay the bead moldings down flat on a work surface with the back sides facing up. Measure and mark the lengths to the dimensions of the wooden box with a pencil.
- 2). Adjust the miter saw to cut a 45-degree angle. Cut the lengths of bead molding to the marked dimensions with the miter saw. The back sides should equal the box dimension measurements. The front sides should have the long points and be longer than the box dimensions so that they fit together around the box like a picture frame.
- 3). Fit the bead molding around the base of the box. Hammer finish nails every 2 to 4 inches through the molding into the base of the box.
- 4). Set the nails approximately 1/16 inch below the surface of the molding with a nail set. Fill the holes of the nails with wood putty using a putty knife. Allow the wood putty to dry for 24 hours. Sand the putty flush with the surface of the molding with a fine-grit sanding pad. Wipe off the molding with a tack cloth.
- 5). Brush a coat of wood finish over the molding with a paintbrush. Allow the finish to dry at least four hours and apply a second coat. Allow the final coat to dry for 24 hours before handling it.
