- 1). Locate the Microsoft Works document you want to open in Word Pad. Works documents have the ".wps" extension.
- 2). Right-click on the .wps file and select "Open With" and then "Change Default Program."
- 3). Choose Word Pad from the list of programs.
- 4). Click the check box next to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" if you always want to open .wps files in Word Pad. Uncheck the check box if you want to open only the current file in Word Pad.
- 5). Click the "OK" button and the Microsoft Works document is opened in Word Pad.
