Of course it's not the theory of the origin of the universe, that's the other Big Bang, the sitcom; anyway, The Big Bang Theory we have here is an American sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady who were also executive producers of the show, hand-in-hand with Lee Aronsohn, one of the head writers. The show premiered on September 24, 2007.
The television comedy series is filmed and set in Pasadena, California, the show chronicles the story of five of its characters, namely: two roommate Caltech geniuses, Leonard Hofstadter, an experimental physicist, and Sheldon Cooper, a theoretical physicist; Penny, their neighbor across the hall who is an attractive blonde waitress and aspiring actress, and Leo and Sheldon's nerdy and socially-awkward colleagues and pals Howard Wolowitz who is an aerospace engineer and a non-PhD from JPL, and Rajesh Koothrappali, a postdoc particle astrophysicist also working at Caltech.
Geeky demeanor, nerdy antics, and intellect of the four guys are so contrary with Penny's social skills and common sense, yes, common sense. Other supporting characters are Leslie Winkle also fro Caltech, Bernadette, a microbiology student who works with Penny as part-time waitress, and Amy Farrah Fowler, a friend of Sheldon's.
