Use Your Brain to Get Cheap TVs

Whenever somebody mentions cheap TVs, you feel that you are being taken for a ride. That is not always the truth. You need not shell out a large amount to get good televisions without any compromise on the quality. In fact, the difference between cheap TVs and inexpensive TVs is very subtle. If you understand that, you will be the winner and the proud owner of a high quality TV at the lowest cost. For this, you have to become familiar with the technical terms and features of modern televisions. They are presented below in a simple manner for your easy comprehension.

Digital Display Technology

Digital display technology had been growing quite rapidly over the last few decades. We have come a long way from the conventional picture tube televisions, otherwise known as CRT TVs. Today, we hear all types of fancy names like liquid crystal display or LCD, plasma, DLP, etc. All these technologies are classified under a single technology, termed as fixed pixel. In fixed pixel technology, the images are measured only in pixels and not in the traditional scan lines. The advantage with these technologies is that the screens are thin, sometimes wafer thin. However, the cost of these televisions is still quite high, even prohibitive at times, particularly for models with screens larger than 40".

If you are looking for cheap TVs, then you have to forget LCD and plasma TVs for the time being. LCD and plasma TVs have been getting cheaper in the last few years but still beyond the reach of common folks. It is advisable to wait for another 5 years before you seriously think of them, if your television budget is a limited one. As of now, they are meant only for those people who will pay a huge premium for anything latest. You should also keep it firm in your mind that the quality of the traditional CRT TVs had improved quite a lot due to the improvement in the technology of the circuit boards and picture capturing. As options of cheap TVs, they do hold an edge over the fancier models of LCD and plasma TVs.

Other Television Features

The other features that are highlighted by television manufacturers are the number of channels and the sound output in terms of watts. Here again, you have to use your brain. Most of the standard models of cheap TVs today have 200 channels, which should be more than enough for at least another decade or two. Even if you have 500 channels in your television, do you really think that you are going to watch all of them? Surveys reveal that people never see more than 10 to 20 channels on a serious basis. Why should you pay an exorbitant amount for 500 channels, which you will never use?

The sound output also requires serious consideration. A television is definitely not a music system, where you really require high sound output or very superior sound quality. Nearly all the cheap TVs of reputed manufacturers have a decent sound output. In fact, a sound output of 2000 watts in a television will be more of a nuisance than a convenience. If you consider the above technical details whilst buying your television, it will not be very difficult to get cheap TVs without compromising on quality.
