- Henry Ford was born July 30, 1863, in Wayne County, Mich., and married Clara Bryant in April 1888. He was an engineer at Edison Illuminating Co. who help found the Detroit Automobile Co. and on June 16, 1903, founded Ford Motor Co.
- The Model T was the first car mass-produced by the Ford Motor Co. It could reach 45 mph and was sold from October 1913 to May 1927, at prices ranging from $825 to $260.
- The Ford Motor Co. created an efficient assembly line that brought material to the worker. It also paid its workers $5 per day in an attempt to retain knowledgeable and trained employees.
- Philco, which produced electronics and appliances, was bought by the Ford Motor Co. in 1961. In the mid-1960s it designed the NASA Mission Control Center in Houston, Texas. Philco was later renamed Ford Aerospace Corp. and was sold in 1990 to Loral Space Systems.
- In March 2009 Ford Motor Co. began restructuring to cut its debt. It began giving cash and stock to pay off its $10.4 billion debt. On Sept. 1, 2009, Ford announced a 21 percent increase in sales.
