- 1). Choose a new towel rack from a hardware or home improvement store. Consider color, material, size and style when making your purchase. Be sure to select a model that will be able to hold towels for each member of your family.
- 2). Remove your old unit. Using a drill, remove the screws holding the rack to the wall. If the existing rack is particularly large or heavy, you may need someone to hold the unit while you unscrew it.
- 3). Decide where you'd like the new rack to hang. It may need to be higher or lower than the old model depending on how it is set up. You don't want your towels to hit the ground, or to rest on any furniture in the area. Place the rack high enough so towels can hang straight and dry properly.
- 4). Place a level on the wall at the spot where you'd like the new rack to hang. Using the level as a straightedge, draw a light pencil line where you plan to install the towel rack.
- 5). Have a friend or family member hold the towel rack in place over the top of the pencil line. Use your drill to screw the unit into place. Most towel racks will come with appropriate fasteners, but if yours doesn't, choose a screw with the proper head size to fit into the holes on the rack.
- 6). Patch any screw holes with spackle and touchup paint if you've installed your new unit in a different spot than the old one.
