Heather B. Armstrong was born Heather Hamilton in 1975 to a Mormon family in a suburb of Memphis, Tennessee. She ultimately rebelled against the Mormon lifestyle and moved to Los Angeles where she became a web designer for a dot-com startup company.

In the years following her getting fired because of her blog, Heather married her current husband and moved to Utah where she eventually had a child. Much of her popularity can be attributed to the buzz created by her firing as well as her entertaining writing style and content.
