- 1). Make the cuts for the switches and fixture. Use the boxes that will hold the switches as a template to determine the size of the cuts. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the size of the ceiling cut you will need. The hole will have to be large enough to provide access to a junction box.
- 2). Remove the baseboard between the power source receptacle and switch 1. Eventually you will run cable along the floor (hidden by the baseboard) between the outlet and switch to provide power for the light.
- 3). Make the wiring cuts. Above each switch hole, where the ceiling and wall meet, make a 1-by-2-inch hole to feed the electrical cable through to the fixture junction box. Make a small opening, just above the floor, beneath the source outlet and switch 1 to feed cable through.
- 4). Install the hardware. Affix the two switch boxes to the wall and hang the fixture junction box from a brace bar between two ceiling joists with wood screws.
- 5). Run the 3-wire NM cable from each switch to the junction box. Feed fish tape through the 1-by-2 hole across the ceiling to the fixture hole. Attach the cable to the fish tape and pull the tape back toward you. Leave at least 8 inches exposed at each hole.
- 6). Run the 2-wire BX cable from the power source to switch 1 in the space between the drywall and the floor. Attach the black and white wires to the terminals of the outlet. If the source outlet has unused terminals, use them. If not, create a "pigtail" by connecting short wires to the terminals and using electrical connectors to connect the wires to the pigtail.
- 7). Connect switch 1. Attach the black wire from the power supply to the switch's common terminal (it is labeled). Attach the red and remaining black wires to the other terminals. Use a connector to link the two white wires. Ground the switch to the box.
- 8). Connect switch 2. First mark the white wire with a piece of electrical tape to indicate that this wire is carrying current. Attach that wire and the red wire to the non-common terminals. Attach the black wire to the common terminal. Ground the switch to the box.
- 9). Connect the fixture. Mark the white wire coming from switch 2 with a piece of electrical tape to indicate that it is carrying current. Connect this wire to the light's black wire. Connect the two red wires together and the two black wires together. Connect the remaining white wire to the light's white wire.

Mount the fixture according to the manufacturer's instructions, replace the baseboards, and use a drywall patch kit to fill the holes.
