According to Wikipedia, tar paper is "a heavy-duty paper used in construction.
Tar paper is made by impregnating paper with tar producing a waterproof material useful for roof construction".
Roofing felt on the other hand is a "common type of tar paper, is a glass fibre or polyester fleece impregnated with bituminous material (tar, asphaltic bitumen); it is produced in roll form.
" Tar paper is mainly utilized to waterproof roofs and to prevent moisture for coming or forming in.
It is spread out before laying down the asphalt, wood, or other shingles down since tar paper is not completely sun or wind resistant.
Going back on fixing a flat leaky roof, normally on rainy days cracks or blisters holds water.
Wipe the area dry with a clean rag.
Remove dirt and traces of gravel.
After which check whether the felt or tar paper contains breaks or blisters.
To patch up or mend blistered roof surface: Step 1: With a sharp knife, slice open the blistered surface until you reach its total depth.
Be careful however not to touch the layer of roofing felt that is in good condition.
Step 2: Prop up the blistered layer.
In the event that there is water underneath it, press down the edges to squeeze out water until you get every drop.
Let it stay propped up until it completely dries out.
On wet season when layers are all soaked up, it is time to use a propane torch with flame-spreader nozzle to dry the area.
Just be sure you have the protective goggles on.
Use the flame over and over again until the layers have dried out.
Remember that roofing felt and tar paper are flammable so just be extra careful not to burn it, otherwise you need to buy a new layer.
