- 1). Visit the tumblr.com website and click the "Log In" button at the top-right of the screen.
- 2). Enter your Tumblr user name and password to log in.
- 3). Visit your Tumblr website and click the "Customize" button.
- 4). Select "Theme" from the navigation bar on the top.
- 5). Click "Custom HTML."
- 6). Right-click the entire body of code from your website, then click "Copy."
- 7). Open the Start menu and type "notepad." Click "Notepad" from the list of results.
- 8). Right-click the empty text area, then click "Paste."
- 9). Press "File," then "Save." Save the document with a file name so you can easily revert it if necessary.

Press "Ctrl"+"F" on your keyboard to open the "Find" window. - 11
Paste "<style type="text/css">" without quotation marks into the "Find" bar, then press "Enter." - 12
Locate the line beginning with "Background:." - 13
Replace the text "URL('{image:Background}')" on the background line with "URL('{image:<URL>}')" without quotation marks. Change <URL> to the Web address of the image that you would like to make your background. - 14
Change "top left fixed repeat" on the "Background:" line to read "top left fixed no-repeat" without quotation marks. - 15
Change "top left fixed repeat" on the "Background:" line to read "top left fixed no-repeat" without quotation marks. - 16
Paste the revised text over the current text in the "Custom HTML" page in your Tumblr account. - 17
Click "Update Preview" to test your changes. If you like how the image appears, click "Save."
