- If your food is cooking unevenly, verify that the range is level by using a bubble level. If not, either repair the floor beneath the range or rise up the lower end with shims. If the surface of the cooktop is too hot, check that you are using the correct size pan. A pan must be the same size or slightly larger than the burner. Avoid sliding pans across a ceramic cooktop so you don't scratch it. If you own a Frigidaire gas range, and the burner isn't heating, clean the oven recess, and verify that the gas shutoff valve is turned on. Light the burner by depressing the control knob and turning it to "Lite." Hold the knob on this setting until the burner lights, and then select the flame size. If you have a coil burner, look at the heating element, and see if it is cracked or is burnt. If so, replace it. If the surface burner flame is orange, just leave the burner on until it turns blue. The burner is burning off dust particles.
- If your Frigidaire range broiler is not working properly, verify that you have both cooking and temperature settings on "Broil." Examine the broiler heating element, and replace if burnt out. If you own a gas oven, examine the broil igniter. If the flame is weak on this element, you must obtain a new one. Your food will smoke excessively or burn if it's too close to the broiler element. Move the rack to a lower position. Always trim off excess fat on meats. Completely close the door to reduce cooking times. Clean the gaskets if the doors won't completely close.
- Always use the correct pans and baking settings for your food. Preheat the oven to reduce cooking times. If you have a gas oven, and the oven is not baking correctly, replace the bake igniter if the flame is weak. If you own a Frigidaire electric oven, check the baking heating element. Change it out if burnt out. Move the rack up to a higher position if your food is burning on the bottom. Follow the recipe for proper baking instructions.
- If your range is not working at all, verify that it is plugged into an electrical outlet and turn the gas on. Change out any blown fuses, and reset the circuit breaker. If your oven is smoking excessively, run the self-cleaning cycle. Close the door completely, and engage the latch to start the cycle. If your oven is not completely clean when the cycle is done, run it again.
