- 1). Wipe it off thoroughly, with a damp cleaning cloth. This helps clean any debris from the nozzle. Sometimes this is all that is necessary to ensure the nozzle works properly.
- 2). Hold the nozzle of the spray can under hot water for 10 to 15 seconds. The hot water dissolves any sticky residue from adhesives or hairspray. Dry the nozzle and spray it, to check if it is working correctly. This method is effective on just about any spray can nozzle.
- 3). Remove the nozzle from the can, if it is from paint, or a can that contains lacquer. Soak the nozzle in a glass jar with paint or lacquer thinner in it. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes to an hour, to dissolve any residue. Rinse the nozzle well; and dry it with a soft cloth. Once you clear it of the debris -- place the can on a table -- direct the nozzle opening away from your body, and replace it.
- 4). Take the nozzle off the spray can. Use a straight pin or a sewing needle to remove any debris from the nozzle. Replace the nozzle.
