How to Have a Belated Halloween

    • 1). Let your child know that Halloween is still happening. Very young children will be unaware of the exact date that Halloween falls upon. Simply act as if Halloween has yet to occur. It will still happen, and all will be well. If your children are older, let them know early that Halloween will be delayed this year. Explain it in a positive way. Give the date that your personal Halloween celebration will fall on.

    • 2). Stick to the originally promised date of the belated Halloween. Decorate your home and yard for Halloween on this date. Dress up in costume, and help your child get fully decked out in costume.

    • 3). Ask your friends and family members to all come over on a certain night. You will tell your child that this is your own special Halloween, Phase 1. There will be two phases to a belated Halloween celebration. Try to time it so that the guests come over at different times. Give each friend or family member a special kind of candy or treat to give to your child. They should ring the door by saying "Trick or Treat." When the child opens the door, he will be given candy and treats. Explain that this is a special backwards celebration, making it all that more special. He may like it so much that he wants it this way every year. Be sure to explain that this is a one-time thing. This may confuse smaller children, but they will get excited if you act happy and excited about it.

    • 4). Throw a Belated Halloween party with all the children from your child's class. Explain to the teacher that your child missed Halloween. The teacher will help in letting the parents know. They will likely be excited to get more use out of an expensive Halloween costume. The kids will be excited to wear their costume again--and about getting more chocolate. You'll be able to keep cheap Halloween candy on sale the day after Halloween, and decorations can be had at this time at a fraction of the cost. This sort of Halloween party is the smartest by far!

    • 5). Listen to Halloween music all around the season up through your belated celebration. As Christmas carols can induce an immediately feeling of home and hearth, Halloween music can trigger memories of haunted house spectacles and chocolate binges. Try "The Monster Mash" for unbeatable Halloween fun and humor.

    • 6). Listen to what your child really wants out of Halloween. If he simply wants the same amount of candy that can be had from trick or treating, this is easy to indulge, especially when all the candy is marked down the day after Halloween.
