National parks in North Carolina offer vacationers a myriad of options for RV camping. Beautiful mountain campsites in western North Carolina are available along the Blue Ridge Parkway and in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Travelers who prefer ocean and beach camping can find many campsites at Cape Hatteras National Seashore Park or Cape Lookout National Seashore Park. The Blue Ridge Parkway runs 252 miles from the Virginia state line until just north of Bryson City, North Carolina and has several RV campsites for travelers. Doughton Park, at milepost 241, has 20 RV sites and an extensive trail system which hikers can explore. Julian Price Park, the parkway's largest campground, has 68 RV sites at milepost 297.
Linville Falls, milepost 316, has 20 RV sites and a visitor's center. Crabtree Meadows has 22 RV sites available at milepost 340. The southermost campground is also the highest in elevation. At almost 5,000 feet above sea level, Mount Pisgah is at milepost 408 and has camping for 61 RV's.

Camping in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park may be more primitive than some RVer's care for. Campsites have only cold running water and no electricity, showers or water hook-ups. Balsam Mountain Campground, off the Blue Ridge Parkway at milepost 458, has 46 sites. The maximum length for RV's is 30 feet. Cataloochee Campground is on Interstate 40 at exit 20 and has 27 sites with a maximum length of 31 feet. Deep Creek Campground, just north of Bryson City, has 92 camping sites but restricts RV length to 26 feet. Smokemont has 142 sites; trailers cannot exceed 35 feet, although motor homes up to 40 feet long are welcome.

Cape Hatteras has four campsites for RV's. While none have electrical or water hook-ups, they do have restrooms and cold showers available. Oregon Inlet, near the Bodie Island Lighthouse, has 120 sites. Cape Point Campground has 202 sites and is near the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Historic District. Frisco Campground has 127 sites among the sand dunes in Frisco, North Carolina, and Oracoke Campground in Ocracoke, North Carolina has 136 sites available. All the campsites are located on sandy soil with no shade trees.

There are no permanent campgrounds inside Cape Lookout National Seashore Park, although RV parking is allowed on the beach. The park provides no amenities, and you must bring anything you need with you and take all trash out when you leave.
