- 1). Choose a Bible translation that is easy for you to read and understand. You may find that many versions of the Bible, such as the King James version, are difficult to follow. Select a translation that is clear to you and also true to the original meaning. If you are able to understand what you're reading, you'll be more interested in reading the Bible in general. Contemporary English is the simplest version and is recommended for beginners.
- 2). Set aside a time that you know you will be able to read without interruption. Some Christians choose the morning time when their mind is refreshed. Those with young families find that first thing in the morning before everyone wakes up is best. Others choose the evening hours when when things have calmed down a bit and the house is quiet. Choose a time that is convenient for you and read the Bible for at least 15 minutes everyday at that same time. Begin with just four to six chapters per day. Once you begin to read regularly each day it will become second nature.
- 3). You can choose to start with Genesis, the beginning. It is located in the Old Testament. The Old Testament illustrates the creation of life, giving you a better understanding of how things developed and the meaning behind Biblical laws. Some believe that reading the Bible from beginning to end gives you better understanding overall. Others choose to read it in chronological order.
- 4). Read the Bible online and sign up for daily email reminders. You may find that it's more convenient to read the Bible on the computer. There are many online Bible websites that have daily reading plans that assist you with staying on track by sending daily Bible versus to your email account. Most offer a read-the-bible-in-a-year plan, which would benefit your desire to make reading the Bible become a habit.
