Plan for that occasion. Gather your friends who can sing and let them prepare birthday songs to serenade the birthday celebrator on the day of his/her birthday. This must be a surprise rendition for the celebrant. If singers are not available, use audio CD or cassette tape birthday songs.

Make a birthday poster using the poster board. If you don't have the art of drawing or making greetings, you can pay an artist to do it. Make sure it is colorful and attractive with meaningful birthday greetings for the celebrant.

Prepare simple food that is easy to prepare the one that you will not spend much time and effort preparing them. Preferably finger foods the better.

You make this a surprise party for the celebrant. Make sure he/she has no idea of what you planned. On the day of the birthday, let the singers serenade early morning in the celebrant' s house. It is very solemn early in the morning and this would make an impression.

After the singing, start the simple program. Let the selected friends give their personal testimonies of how the celebrant mean to them, name the positive things he has done, his accomplishments that they are proud of, etc.

Then, everybody in the group should give their wishes. This is also the time to give the greeting poster and the gifts if there are special gifts to give. Let the celebrant give his/her response.

The last part would be the eating time. If you are serving finger foods they can just pick some and continue their conversation with friends and have fun.
