- 1). Pry the center cap off the handle with a flat-head screwdriver. Often there will be a small notch between the cap and the handle. Place the tip of the screwdriver into the notch and pop the cover off the handle.
- 2). Remove the screw that secures the knob to the valve stem shaft with a Phillip's or flat-head screwdriver.
- 3). Pull the knob off the shaft with your hand and discard it.
- 4). Slide the new knob onto the shaft until it seats against the water valve.
- 5). Thread the original screw into the valve stem shaft and tighten it with the screwdriver.
- 6). Press the new center cap onto the handle using your thumb.
- 1). Inspect the perimeter of the single handle housing for a set screw. Often the set screw mounts to the bottom of the handle.
- 2). Loosen the set screw with a screwdriver or an Allen wrench depending on the type of set screw used.
- 3). Pull the old handle off the valve stem shaft and then slide the new handle into place.
- 4). Thread the setscrew already installed on the new faucet clockwise to tighten the handle onto the shaft.
