- 1). Click the link by Resources to register at traffic.com. Registration is free and easy: click the button "Sign Up" next to the phrase "New User?," which is below the top navigation bars on the home page. This will navigate you to a new window where you can register by filling in a user name, password, email address, and the city where you normally drive.
- 2). Enter in a driving starting location and ending location in the fields marked "A" and "B." These locations will help make the route that traffic.com will notify you about. Click the "Go" button when you've entered the locations.
- 3). Click the "Save This Drive" button below the routes when the new page loads. Click the "Go" button, which will bring up another window that will let you add a title to that drive. Remember the name of the drive. That's the name you'll select when you add the alert feature.
- 4). Click the name of the drive underneath the phrase "Set Up Alert For." This phrase will appear in a tab called "Alerts."
- 5). Enter a name for the alert. For example, if you want to be alerted about rush hour traffic just before your drive home from work, choose a phrase like, "Homeward Bound Traffic." Choose something that you'll recognize, because this will be the name that will appear on your phone or email letting you know what the alert is about.
- 6). Select which kind of alert you want, whether one that repeats indefinitely each day or one that happens only once. You can choose to be alerted only for bad traffic or for all traffic for a specific time--or both. Because you want an alert for rush hour traffic, choose both: this will allow you to set a specific time of day the alert notifies you about.
- 7). Choose whether you want the alert sent via text message, email, or voice message. You'll have to enter in your phone number if you want a voice message or text alert. Click the "Go" button to confirm the settings for your traffic alert.
