Things for Kids to Do in LA

      Los Angeles is one of the most-visited cities in the United States. Families across America and the world descend on Los Angeles to view the Hollywood sign, visit the beaches and possibly catch a glimpse of a celebrity or two. Finding things for kids to do in L.A. is not a problem; the city is filled with fun activities that keep both parents and children amused for the duration of the vacation.

    Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens

    • Located near the intersection of Interstate 5 and the Ventura Freeway, the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is home to more than 1,000 animals that represent more than 250 species; the Botanical Gardens displays more than 7,000 plants from 800 different species. Special shows and exhibits can be found throughout the zoo and gardens. In addition, the zoo has a special children's zoo where kids can pet and feed domestic farm animals. Both the zoo and garden are open 364 days a year (closed on Christmas).

    California Science Center

    • Just off of Interstate 110, the California Science Center provides an educational and fun place where children of all ages can learn about science, biology and ecology. Hands-on exhibits allow children to play while learning. Throughout the year, special limited-time exhibits focus on particular topics not normally covered by the museum. In addition, the center has an IMAX movie theater that regularly shows nature- and science-related movies. The center is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.

    Six Flags Hurricane Harbor

    • Situated just north of Los Angeles, off of Interstate 5 in nearby Valencia, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor provides hours of wet-and-wild fun for both children and adults. The water park features action thrill rides, water slides, children's fun lagoons, a wave pool and lazy river. No matter the age, there is something for everyone, as well as plenty of space to relax and lay about in the sun. The park is open from May through September.
