How to Operate a Convertible Top on a 1987 BMW

Open the Top

1). Flip up the levers that lock the BMW convertible top in place. These levers are located directly above the driver and front passenger seats.
2). Push the lever that operates the convertible top up to cause the top to open and be pulled down into the back of the BMW. On a 1987 BMW, this lever is located between the driver and passenger seats on the storage console.
3). Push the levers down on the back of the convertible top to keep them from sticking up in the air.

1). Pull up the levers located on the back of the convertible top to prepare them for latching the convertible top in place.
2). Push the lever that operates the convertible top down to cause the top to close and slide up over the car.
3). Push down on the levers to latch the BMW convertible top into place above both the driver and passenger sides.
