- 1). Water the clumps of timothy grass to wet them. It's easier to remove grass from the lawn when the grass is wet.
- 2). Stick a garden spade under the timothy grass. Remove the spade, then stick it in again, working your way around the grass clump on a circle. Push the spade into the soil to loosen the roots.
- 3). Grab the tuft of timothy grass. Pull up by hand to remove the grass. Repeat with all clumps to remove the grass.
- 4). Wait several weeks and check the lawn again. If all of the roots were not removed, the grass will begin to regrow. Pull it out to remove the timothy grass from the landscape.
- 1). Mow the entire lawn before beginning.
- 2). Wet the lawn with water to moisten it.
- 3). Spread thick newspaper sections (about eight to 10 sheets) over the clumps of timothy grass. Spray the newspaper with water.
- 4). Pile garden mulch or garden soil over the newspaper to hold it in place.
- 5). Wait several months for the grass to die. Everything under the newspaper will die, so reseeding lawn grass or placing a shrub or other plant in this area may be necessary.
