Choosing Healthy Snacks for Kids

Most kids are snackers more then they are meal eaters.
It isn't uncommon for kids to want to graze versus sitting down to the table to eat an actual meal.
While mealtime is definitely important, and should become a family habit, snacks will be inevitable.
Helping your children to learn healthy snacking habits can help them maintain a healthy weight throughout their lives.
Follow these tips to ensure healthy snacking patterns with your children.
1.
Let your kids help you with the shopping list.
Ask them what kinds of produce they'd like for their snacks.
When kids have a say in what they are eating they will be more likely to eat it.
Help them get excited about different choices.
2.
Be sure your kids know where the healthy snacks are kept.
If they know how to easily find the produce, and they know how to prepare it, if needed the chances of them eating it is a lot higher.
3.
Prepare your fruit and vegetables and put them in see through containers in the fridge, so you kids know where they are and can easily access them.
Having these fat burning foods on hand will be great for your diet as well.
4.
Keep fresh fruit on the counter.
Explain to your kids when fruit is ripe and best to eat.
The more they know the more likely they are to partake.
5.
Pre-portion out snacks, such as nuts or whole grain crackers, for your kids in plastic bags or small see through containers.
This will help to avoid mindless eating, overeating, and over doing it on the snacks.
6.
Avoid buying too many sweets and sugary snacks.
Keep them higher on shelves if you do buy them, so they are not as readily available to your kids.
If the lower shelves contain the healthier snack options, your kids will be more likely to reach for those foods.
These small practices can help get your kids into good habits of healthy eating, and will keep your family feeling great.
