- Elderly people have more time on their hands in their post-employment life, so get your elderly pal some games and puzzles to pass the time in his twilight years.
Get your senior games such as "Reminiscing," which challenges their pop culture memories from the 1950s through present day; "Life Stories," a noncompetitive, bonding game; and "Senior Moments," which tests memory but is not meant for seniors with memory problems.
Elderly people enjoy card games and puzzles, so get him large-print editions of any of the following (to keep him from straining his eyes): bingo cards, crossword puzzles, cryptogram puzzles, jigsaw puzzles (with larger pieces), sudoku and word-search puzzles. He also may enjoy activity and trivia books highlighting events and people from the 1920s, 1930s or 1940s. If he spends a lot of time at the casino, get him a handheld electronic poker game. - If you know your elderly friend's favorite books, music, movies or television shows, you have plenty of gift options at your disposal. If she has a favorite author, get her several books by that writer; she may like audio versions of those books, as well.
Get your elderly pal several of her favorite musical act's CDs; if she does not have a particular favorite, get her a compilation highlighting music from eras of her youth. Maybe she loves movies from back in the day, particularly anything from the 1930s through the 1960s, or even more modern times. Get her some of her favorite films or a DVD pack of classic movies.
If your elderly friend adores classic television like "I Love Lucy," get her a couple of season sets (the complete set, if it's affordable for you), or other individual series releases--for instance, if she loves Ralph Kramden and "The Honeymooners," you can get the complete one-season set of "Classic 39" episodes plus other miscellaneous releases, such as the "Lost Episodes". Whatever her preference, she should enjoy revisiting her favorite books, music and movies/TV shows. - Elderly people often get a kick out of novelty items, such as coffee mugs and t-shirts that feature humorous elderly-related sayings that poke fun at their age and consequences of old age.
