- 1). Remove the connector attached to the ribbon before cutting it. Firmly hold the connector and pull the ribbon backward to remove it. If it is difficult to remove, lightly push down on the front of the connector and jiggle the ribbon back and forth while you are pulling.
- 2). Set the ribbon cable on a flat surface. Measure the length of the ribbon cable that you wish to cut off. Use a ruler to determine the measurements. If you are not sure how much, then leave a little extra and you can cut more off the ribbon later if necessary.
- 3). Hold a pair of large, sharp scissors at a right angle to the ribbon, so you can cut straight across the width. Position the scissors in one hand and firmly hold the ribbon in the other hand. Cut slowly to prevent tearing the ribbon. Avoid cutting diagonally across the ribbon and try to hold the scissors straight. Push down with the scissors for the best results.
- 4). Slowly open up the scissors and carefully pull the ribbon out. Set the excess ribbon in a safe location, in case you need it later.
