- 1). Download and install a program that is used to convert computer video files from one format to another. Handbrake (see "References" section) is a free example of one of these types of programs. Xilisoft's Video Converter (see "References" section) is an example of a program you will have to pay for.
- 2). Open the program that you have just finished downloading and installing.
- 3). Click on the MP4 video file from your computer and drag it into the main window on the program you're using. This will add it to that program's "Playlist."
- 4). Click on the "Output File Type" drop-down menu. Select "MP3 Audio." This will tell the program that as opposed to converting both the audio and video to another file format, you just want to hang onto the audio.
- 5). Choose a directory where you want to save your new MP3 file.
- 6). Click the "Convert" button. This will separate the audio from the video in your MP4 file, leaving you with a perfect MP3 audio file in the directory you specified.
