- 1). Open the door, then disconnect the closer from the top and bottom (if applicable). Most closers are secured to the door using two to four screws, however some models allow you to unclip the closer from the door without removing screws.
- 2). Remove the six screws securing the hinge to the door jamb, then remove the door and place it on a flat surface.
- 3). Remove the old hinge by removing the six screws securing the hinge into place.
- 4). Align the new hinge, then secure it using the six screws that were removed from the old hinge. If the screws are rusted or corroded, replace the screws along with the hinge. If you are not sure as to the proper size of the screw, bring the old screws with you to your local hardware store for comparison.
- 5). Reinstall the door to the door jamb by aligning the hinge screw holes with the pre-existing screw holes on the jamb. Secure the door to the door jamb using the six screws.
- 6). Reconnect the door closer or closers by re-installing the screws that were removed or by clipping the close back into place.
