- Tall fescue is a coarse, bladed grass that is dense. The blades are tall and medium- to dark-green. They are rolled up when they first bud.
- Turf tall fescue is a newer variety of tall fescue and has shorter and finer blades than most of the other varieties of fescue.
- Tall fescue has a dense root system that makes it resistant to drought and heat.
- Tall fescue can tolerate more shade than other types of grass, and it also tolerates moderate foot traffic well. It does not do well in high altitudes.
- Because tall fescue likes to clump together, open areas may form, which will require reseeding. Tall fescue requires less water than most grass, and when mowed, the clippings can be left on the lawn as they will eventually decompose and act as a fertilizer.
