Several major cities sit along I-70's route, including Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Columbus and Baltimore. In Denver, visitors can see the Colorado State Capitol and visit the United States Mint. The city is also home to City Park, site of the country's fourth-largest museum, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (dmns.org), and the Denver Zoo (denverzoo.org). In St. Louis, travelers can ride to the top of the Gateway Arch (nps.gov) overlooking the Mississippi River. The highway passes through a number of interesting landmarks, including the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel in Colorado. The tunnel, which passes through the Continental Divide, is the highest vehicular tunnel in North America and the longest in the Interstate system. Also in Colorado, I-70 passes the Rocky Mountains, the Grand Valley and the Colorado River. In Colorado, Interstate 70 connects a number of ski resorts, including Copper Mountain (coppercolorado.com), Beaver Creek (beavercreek.com) and Vail (vail.com). Located in the Rocky Mountains, Vail offers ski and snowboarding opportunities in winter, and horseback, hiking and mountain biking trails in the summer. I-70 also crosses a number of national parks (nps.gov) with several recreational opportunities, including camping and hiking. Travelers can watch several professional sports teams off of I-70, including Major League Baseball teams in Baltimore, Denver, Kansas City and St. Louis. National Hockey League action can be viewed in Columbus, Denver and St. Louis, while National Basketball League games are played in Denver, Indianapolis and Cleveland. Several annual events are also held in communities across I-70. In Columbus, the Rock on the Range (rockonthegrange.com) attracts several national and international alternative rock bands. Visitors to Denver can also sample more than 2,200 different beers from approximately 450 breweries at the Great American Beer Festival (greatamericanbeerfestival.com).
