- 1). Measure the height of your window from where the curtain rod will hang to where you want the curtain to fall. You can have the curtain hit at the bottom of the sill or can have it stretch to the floor. Also, measure the width of the window.
- 2). Cut the exterior fabric so that it measures one and a half times the width of the window by the length plus 4 inches. If your window is 40 inches wide by 60 inches long, cut a 60-inch-by-64-inch piece of fabric.
- 3). Cut the flannel and the lightweight fabric so that they are 4 inches smaller than the outside fabric in both width and length. If your outside fabric is 60-by-64-inches, cut the flannel and lightweight fabric so that they each measure 56-by-60-inches.
- 4). Place the outside fabric on a flat surface or the floor. The wrong side of the fabric should face up. Fold the sides of the fabric over 1/2 inch and press. Fold the top and bottom edges over 1/2 inch and press.
- 5). Position the flannel on top of the outside fabric, 2 inches away from each side, 1 inch away from the bottom and 3 inches away from the top. Place the lightweight fabric on top of the flannel.
- 6). Fold the sides of the outside fabric over 1 1/2 inches, so that the raw edges of the flannel and lightweight fabric are concealed. Press and pin in place. Stitch along the sides.
- 7). Fold the top edge of the fabric down 2 1/2 inches to conceal the raw edge of the flannel and lightweight fabric. Pin in place, and then stitch along the edge. You should have a pocket along the top.
- 8). Fold the bottom edge 1/2 inch over the raw edges of the flannel and lightweight fabric. Pin in place, and stitch along the edge.
- 9). Slide your curtain onto the rod and hang on the window.
