- 1). Clean the entire car with a high quality car soap. Scrub the affected tar areas thoroughly as this will take out the sticky oil content from the tar, so it will not smear.
- 2). Use a high-pressure washer to remove the tar. This method will remove all but the most adhesive fragments of the tar. Be careful not to get too close, so you do not affect the finish.
- 3). Apply kerosene to a clean rag and work the solvent onto the tar. It may take few applications but it will dissolve and remove the tar. Use small amounts and clean up any residue. Do not allow the kerosene to stand on the car finish as this may harm or dull the finish. Use quick strokes and remove the kerosene quickly with soapy water.
- 4). Apply a generous coat of wax, allow it to dry and buff it off of the affected area. Build up several coats of wax to the area that may be prone for the tar to collect, especially behind the wheel well areas. If you keep up the wax treatments, the tar can be removed quickly with the high-pressure method..
