- 1). Check the pool for obvious floating debris. Dip a pool net into the pool and collect the debris in the net. Remove all visible debris from the pool. Pool debris can develop algae or mold, which can contribute to scummy pool water foam.
- 2). Remove the filter in your pool and clean it. Follow the filter manufacturer's instructions for the proper cleaning procedure. A dirty filter may allow debris and sediment to build up in your pool water, which can lead to pool foam.
- 3). Turn on your clean pool filter and let it run. A properly running filter should help clear out the majority of the scummy foam on its own. Give the pool filter time to properly circulate through the water.
- 4). Add a special chlorine solution called pool shock to the pool according to the manufacturer's instructions. Pool shock changes the pH levels in the water, which helps kill the mold and algae that leads to the formation of scummy foam.
- 5). Use a pool vacuum to vacuum up any residual debris or sediment in the water that wasn't cleared out by the pool filter. Repeat this step as needed to keep debris from accumulating.
