As my wife and I were shopping for groceries not long ago, I asked her if she noticed how many people were actually reading the labels on the products they are purchasing.
It wasn't many years ago that most people wouldn't give the ingredients a second thought.
And why would they? Most people trusted the manufacturers as well as government "inspectors" to ensure our food was safe.
How things have changed.
Now that we are aware of the amount of chemicals that are used in our food we have become more diligent in educating ourselves about the benefits and effects that these chemicals may have on us.
And if you are a pet owner in general and a dog lover specifically, you should be just as concerned about the ingredients in what your dog is eating.
It is no wonder that pet owners are changing some of the food their pets consume.
In my particular case I am now interested in natural dog treats for my dog.
Why? Because my pet has developed some health issues which, in part, may have been caused by the treats I was feeding her.
I will admit that I did not even consider what ingredients made up my dog's treats.
All I knew is that she liked certain treats and I enjoyed giving them to her.
I thought I was just giving her healthy treats.
Little did I know.
Natural dog treats are now the norm in our household.
Gone are those "junk food" treats which led me to believe that I was giving my pet something healthy.
I am involved in a self education process as it pertains to the food that my pet eats.
It takes some time but it is well worth it.
I wonder why I didn't do this years ago rather than simply accepting my pet's treats as being healthy.
It took some heath issues affecting my dog before I opened my eyes.
And now that I am aware of it, I seem to be seeing more and more natural dog treats with natural ingredients.
Where am I finding these treats? At local flea-markets and farmer's markets.
They contain healthy, natural ingredients, are nutritious and home-made.
It has been only a couple of months and I have seen quite a difference in my dog's overall health.
She has lost weight (something I wish I could do!) and seems to be adapting to the changes we have introduced to her eating habits.
And I certainly believe that these improvements have been in part, a result of providing my pet with natural dog treats.
