- 1). If you are working with an indoor plant, spread the newspaper over the surface on which you are working so that any messy spillage of soil or debris can easily be cleaned up when you are finished.
- 2). Wear a pair of garden gloves. Some aloe plants have sharp spines that can cut through your skin.
- 3). Gently remove the leaves you wish to harvest by cutting the leaf at the base as close to the soil as possible. Make the cut on the outside of the leaf, being careful not to cut through the next layer of leaf. Use fresh leaves for healing and discard dead leaves. Always remove leaves from the outer layers not from the younger, inner layers.
