- 1). Launch QuickBooks. Click “Lists” in the top navigation menu. Select “Chart of Accounts” from the context menu.
- 2). Scroll through the list of account registers and find the account that contains the incorrect receipt. For most companies, this is the “Accounts Receivable" register. Double-click on the account name to open the register in the new window.
- 3). Locate the receipt that you want to edit. QuickBooks displays the account’s transactions in date order, with the most recent transaction at the bottom of the screen. If it’s easier to find the receipt by customer name or receipt title, click the “Customer” or “Item” tab at the top of the window to change the transaction display.
- 4). Double-click the transaction to open the details in a new dialog window. Highlight and delete the incorrect information in any of the fields, which include the receipt amount, charge rate, quantity, customer name, item description and receipt date.
- 5). Click the “Save and Close” button to save your changes and exit the receipt transaction dialog box.
