The Polar Vortex is moving from real life to reel life on The Young and the Restless when a major storm hits Genoa City, turning lives and loves upside down, causes secrets to be revealed, and changes loves forever when a plane crashes.

Life for the Winters’ family spirals out of control when they take a trip to Chicago in the midst of a winter storm and their plane goes down. This after Neil Winters (Kristoff St.

John) discovered last week that his son Devon Hamilton's (Bryton James) is having an affair with his wife Hilary Curtis (Mishael Morgan);

"We are traveling in a plane at 35000 feet and there is something that happens where a secret is let out of the bag and that secret propels us into the side of a mountain, where it is 30 below," says Kristoff. "In the 24 years I've been on the show -- we did a masquerade ball years and years ago -- but that doesn't compare to this."

"This is what it would look like if a plane came down on the side of a mountain," adds Tristan Rogers. "There are some fatalities."

To make the plane crash look realistic production designer David Hoffman did his research to make it believable for viewers.

"The first step in this project was understanding where all the action was going to take place, how many victims would be at the crash site, and what type of plane they were flying on," Hoffman says. "The next step – because it takes place during a snow storm, was to find realistic looking snow that would look good falling but would also fill up all the pieces of the plane and the trees.

It was really important to capture what it feels like and the texture."

The action takes place the rest of the month of February, and Daniel Goddard, who plays Cane  Ashby, says, "It's about the worse day in your life. It's about the emotional stakes involved and everyone here has a lot of emotion at stake, so don't miss it."

The storm also affects the residents of Genoa City left behind. The lights flicker, especially in The Underground, where repairs are underway. Has Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) managed to get enough of the work done to keep the patrons, who are celebrating Valentine's Day, safe?

Then, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott)  clashes with her husband Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) as she puts the bottle before her marriage and family; and bad boy Adam Newman (Justin Hartley) inches closer to winning back his wife Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) under his new identity, Gabriel Bingham.   And that’s just the beginning...
