- 1). Open the keypad cover and hold down the number or combination of numbers described in the instructions that came with your garage door opener. Some systems may want you to open the cover only halfway to get the system ready to accept a new PIN (personal identification number). You should see an indicator light or message on the screen indicating that the system is ready to proceed.
- 2). Press the sequence of buttons your system requires to get into the programming function. You should see an indicator light or screen message that the system is ready.
- 3). Enter your PIN and press "Enter" or "PROG," depending on your system. You will get an indicator light or screen message that the system has accepted your code.
- 4). Close the cover and press the “Learn Code” button. It is usually located under the light cover or on the rear panel of the keypad. On some systems, the button might read just "Learn." This allows the garage door system to reset itself to your PIN.
- 5). Open the cover fully and enter your PIN and press "Send." On the first attempt, you may need to do this more than once before the garage door opens, but it should work thereafter. The new PIN is programmed and will operate the door normally.
