- During the Halloween party have a masked parade where the kids can wear pumpkin masks they made themselves. Things you need for the jack-o'-lantern mask include a paper plate, crayons or markers, scissors, hole punch and green ribbon or yarn. On the back of the plate draw the face of a jack-o'-lantern, such as eyes, nose and mouth, and cut it out. Depending upon the age and cutting abilities of your class you can do this step in advance. Let the kids color and decorate their mask with markers or crayons. If desired, kids can use glitter, stickers or paint to decorate the masks. Punch holes in each side of the mask and run ribbon or yarn through so it will secure the mask on the child's head.
- Have the kids make their very own trick-or-treat goodies that look like little ghosts. Items needed include white fabric cut into 2-by-2-inch squares, small round lollipops, thin black ribbon or yarn and black markers. To make the ghost, center the fabric on the top of the lollipop and wrap it around it. Secure the fabric to the stick of the lollipop just under the candy part by tying the ribbon or string. Draw a face, including eyes, nose and mouth on the fabric around the lollipop. If each class goes room to room trick-or-treating, you can hand these ghost lollipops out to other classes at your school.
- Test the kids' fear of all things creepy and crawly by making spiders during your next Halloween party. All you need for this craft are black pipe cleaners, medium to large black pompoms, googly eyes and glue. Have the kids take two pipe cleaners and twist them together in the center to form an "X." Next the kids can separate the legs and make the base of the spider so it can stand up when set on a flat surface. With a little bit of glue, secure the pompom in the center of the spider's legs to make the body and the eyes on the pompom. Let glue completely dry before moving around.
- The milk jug pumpkin is a simple craft for kids that can also be turned into a safe way to light up the front porch for trick-or-treaters. Depending upon the age of the kids in your class, you can cut the eyes, nose and mouth out of the front side of the milk jug ahead of time. Have kids paint the jug with orange paint and the cap with green paint and let completely dry. If desired cut a 2-by-2-inch hole in the back of the pumpkin and slip a battery operated flickering tea light in the back.
