Tuning Guitar Tips - Perfectly Tuned in But Still Sounds Wrong

If your guitar isn't an absolutely stunning piece of musical perfection, like most, then it may have the tendency to go out of tune a little more than it should and tuning guitar tips have been discovered over the years which can help.
Your guitar might sound out of tune when you play a chord even though you have just tuned it in perfectly which doesn't make any sense.
There can be many reasons behind this but here is one of my tuning guitar tips for you to try.
I hope it will ease your frustration a little and I am sure it will.
Does it drive you mad when you play a chord or two and feel like the tuning isn't quite right, so you take the time to perfectly tune in each string, then play the E chord and it still doesn't sound right?  Then you tune in so the E sounds right only for is to knock another chord out of tune.
  It's like a merry-go-round.
I have played on many a bad guitar over the years and the quickest and simplest thing you can try to solve this is the E G test.
Whether you have tuned in your guitar using the manual technique, or an electronic tuner, it doesn't necessarily mean that your guitar will sound perfect for every chord if your guitar isn't perfectly set up.
Sadly, this may been that there is a bigger problem which might need an expert's help (ie.
the bridge may not aligned correctly) but for a quick 'band aid' solution, follow the first of my tuning guitar tips.
Tuning Guitar Tips - The E G Test -         Tune your guitar in the normal way -         Play the standard chord E and listen to whether it sounds OK or not -         Play the standard chord G and listen again If they sound perfect, great, but invariably, these two chords will highlight a problem.
If one sounds great, but the other doesn't, then hunt out the problem string or strings.
For some reason, I have found that the G string is usually in the list or maybe even the only one, I have no idea why.
Let's say it's the G string that's the problem for the sake of this example.
Now, try and re-tune the 'G' string so that it sounds passable when you play both chord E and chord G.
This is fantastic training for your ears and will help with learning by ear in the future.
You may find that if you don't do this, only part of the songs you play will sound fine, but certain chords will sound terrible.
Trying to find a happy medium using this E G test makes the world of difference and it has stopped me having to buy a new acoustic for years and also made me sound much better on awful guitars.
Until you decide to splash the cash on getting someone to sort the 'intonation' of your guitar, or buy a new guitar , try this E G test to ease the pain in the meantime.
There are many more guitar tuning tips up my sleeve, this is just one and it is by far the most effective for this problem as it is so quick and easy and you will be surprised at the results.
Unfortunately, it is only delaying the inevitable, you will need change something eventually and if you are learning on something that's holding you back, you deserve it as these tuning guitar tips will only appease you for as long as your patience lasts!
