  Situated in East Tennessee, Roan Mountain provides outdoor enthusiasts with opportunities for hiking and mountain climbing in the Great Smoky Mountains. The cabins in and around this area are within 30 minutes of these activities, as well as fishing and kayaking on 6,430-acre Watauga Lake. During the winter, the cabins in and around Roan Mountain are within 30 minutes of skiing and snowboarding at the Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain resorts.
  
  

Safe Haven Farm

• The Safe Haven Farm in western Roan Mountain is an approximate 15-minute drive from the town center. The two cabins at this resort, Jake's Cabin and The Bear Cabin, are secluded from each other, and they are within walking distance of hiking paths on the resort's property. Safe Haven offers wedding services, such as providing a lawn for the ceremony, hiring a minister and honeymoon accommodation specials. Both cabins have kitchens, living room with sleeper sofa and a satellite television with DVD player. Pets are allowed to stay in the cabins.

Cherokee Path Cabins

• The Cherokee Path Cabins are less than 10 minutes from Roan Mountain's town center, and it is a 20-minute drive from the hiking and cycling trails at Roan Mountain State Park. This resort provides three non-smoking cabins that are available to rent year-round. Pets are not allowed. Each cabin has a whirlpool tub, living room with fireplace, fully furnished kitchen and a washer/dryer unit. Outdoor amenities at each cabin include a private deck and picnic tables with barbecue grills. As of 2010, any cancellations on bookings must be made a month in advance.

Serenity Haven

• The Serenity Haven cabin, located in Banner Elk, North Carolina, is an approximate 25-minute drive from Roan Mountain, and it is less than 20 minutes from skiing and snowboarding activities at Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain Resorts. This two-level cabin features three bedrooms and can sleep up to eight people. Other amenities in this cabin include two bedrooms, king-sized bed in master bedroom, living room with hardwood floors and fireplace, fully furnished kitchen and a whirlpool tub. Bee Cliff Cabins

• Bee Cliff Cabins in Elizabethton is an approximate 30-minute drive from Roan Mountain, as well as the fishing and boating facilities on Watauga Lake. The cabins are also less than 10 minutes from the Elizabethton Municipal Airport. The seven cabins at this resort are close to each other. The smallest cabin sleeps up to three people, while the largest cabin can accommodate 10 people. Each cabin has a living room, kitchen, private bathroom and fireplace. Pets and smoking are not allowed in any of the cabins. The resort also has a lodge for group gatherings, and it has a game room with a pool table.
