- 1). Click the "Tools" button near the top-right corner of the Internet Explorer window or click the "Tools" item on the top menu bar, then select "Internet Options."
- 2). Select the "Security" tab in the resulting dialog box and then click the "Custom Level" button.
- 3). Scroll down through the list of security settings until you reach the "ActiveX controls and plug-ins" section.
- 4). Set the following options to "Disable:"
Download signed ActiveX controls
Download unsigned ActiveX controls
Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting - 5). Click "OK" on each of the next two screens to confirm the changes.
- 6). Close all open Internet Explorer browser windows. Your changes will take effect the next time Internet Explorer starts.
- 1). Click the "Tools" button near the top-right corner of the window or click the "Tools" item on the top menu bar, then select "Manage Add-ons" in Internet Explorer 8. If you use Internet Explorer 7, select "Manage Add-ons" followed by "Enable or Disable Add-ons" instead.
- 2). Click the "Show" drop-down menu in the resulting window and select "All add-ons" in Internet Explorer 8. If you use Internet Explorer 7, select "Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer" from the menu instead.
- 3). Click on the name of the ActiveX control you want to disable.
- 4). Select the "Disable" option located near the bottom of the window.
- 5). Click "Close" or "OK" to confirm the choice.
