Tips for Fast, Easy Snacks

The most common time when people are likely to eat junk food is when they're in a hurry.
And with as busy of lifestyles as many of us have, that can be quite often.
So what is a working man or woman with countless obligations and responsibilities to do when snack time rolls around, or busy parents trying to haul kids around in the car? The answer is "plan ahead.
" To make it easier for you, here are some tips for fueling up your tank and others in your company while on the go: * Have ready made snacks on hand that are easy to grab while hustling out the door.
* If there is even a chance you may be out for more than an hour or more, consider packing a cooler.
* Think portable.
Have snacks ready that can remain fresh in the summer heat, or be put in a cooler.
* Divide up snacks ahead of time into healthy proportions so they're ready to go.
* Have a variety of snacks to pick from, such as whole wheat crackers, baggies with vegetables, high fiber cereal or granola bars.
Tips for choosing snacks: * Pick snacks that are high in fiber and vitamins-minerals and low in fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium.
* If you are exercising, choose snacks that are calorie dense such as trail mix, cheese and crackers.
* Use snack bags to limit portion sizes.
* Keep snacking in check.
Snacks also contribute to daily calories counts and can add up in a hurry if you snack too much, or snack on unhealthy items.
* Here are a few snack ideas under 100 calories: 28 grapes, 1 cup blueberries or 2 cups raspberries, 1-2 medium cantaloupe 15 strawberries dipped in Cool Whip Lite, 45 steamed edamame (green soybeans), 1-2 apple with two teaspoons of peanut butter, Raw vegetables in 1-4 cup fat-free dressing.
* Checking in over 100 calories, but still excellent snacks, are trail mix, granola bars and protein bars.
These are just some of many tips and options available for snacking on the go.
If you take the time to plan out snacks ahead of time, your body will thank you in the long run.
And your wallet will also because it's usually less expensive to pre-plan snacks.
Also remember to save money by bringing drinks in a cooler such as water bottles and ice tea you brew yourself.
