- 1). Purchase or collect sand. There are many types of sand available, from white beach sand to colored sand that you can purchase from craft stores.
- 2). Pick up rocks that are about the same size. You can pick these up at the beach or purchase them from a home and garden or craft store. They should be small and evenly shaped.
- 3). Place a glass jar with a wide mouth on your work surface. It should be deep enough to hold the number of sand and rock layers you have in mind and several inches wider in diameter than the tealight candle.
- 4). Pour a layer of sand into the bottom of the glass container and then cover it with a layer of rocks. Continue this pattern until you are close to the edge of the glass container. Make the layers as thin or thick as you wish.
- 5). Arrange one or more tealight candles on the last layer. The number of candles you use will depend on the width of the candles and the glass bowl, as well as your preference. To embed the candles, push them in slightly then pour a layer of sand or rocks around them.
