- Playing games is a great way to break the ice at bridal showers. Guests may be meeting each other for the first time, so games will help pave the way toward bonding and conversation. Playing games during gift opening will keep guests interested and involved. It's important to pick games that everyone will be able to participate in, so keep your crowd in mind when choosing a game.
- Select 10 simple, standard recipes. Type them up, and leave out one ingredient for each recipe. Photocopy the recipes so that each guest receives a copy. Guests will then have to write in what they think the missing ingredient is for each recipe. Have guests write their names on the top of the paper and exchange papers to grade. When everyone has finished, read off the recipe and announce the missing ingredient. The person who guessed the most missing ingredients wins.
- Make bingo cards with 25 empty spaces (five across, five down) and one free space in the middle. Make one card for each guest. Have the guests write down the gifts they think the bride will receive in the empty spaces. As the bride opens her gifts, have guests mark off any items they guessed correctly. As soon as someone has five in a row, they shout "bingo" and win a prize. Continue to play the game until another guest wins by getting a blackout (all spaces marked).
- Write a list of questions about the bride and groom and their life together on a piece of paper. Hand copies of the list to the guests. Set a time limit, and have the guests answer as many questions as they can. Have the guests exchange papers to grade their answers. Have the bride read the questions and then give the correct answers. The person with the most correct answers wins.
- Along with the invites to the shower, include an index card and instruction for your guests to fill out the card with a memory they have shared with the bride. These can be sentimental, comical or silly. Have the bride read each index card aloud to the guests, and make her guess who wrote the card. These will make a nice keepsake for a scrapbook as well.
- Each guest must go around and introduce themselves to the crowd saying their name and stating three things, two that are true and one that is a lie. Example: "Hi, I'm Alice. My first job was as a waitress. I have been to Disney World three times, and I am double jointed." All of the other guests will then bet on which statements are true and which one is a lie. When everyone has made her guess, Alice must confess to her lie. This is a great icebreaker for guests to get to know one anther. The true statements are often wackier than the lies.
