How to Initialize the HP Photo & Imaging Director

1). Close all open programs. Download the "HP Photo & Imaging Director," now known as "HP Photosmart Essential," and save it to your desktop.
2). Double-click the installation file to begin the install. Click the "Next" button, and then browse for an installation location.
3). Click the "OK" button when the installation wizard asks you to shut down your computer.
4). Connect the "USB" cable of from your scanner to the computer.
5). Connect the "Power" cable from the scanner into a wall socket or surge protector. The scanner will turn on.
6). Turn on your computer and follow any on-screen instructions that may appear.
