Tons of homeowners are fond of doing their own projects for fun and for saving money. None the less, the necessary tools are needed or the projects are no fun at all.
Having moved into a new house, there were a couple of "excuses" for errecting a new outside storage building. Hold it, that would actually be three reasons.
The first reason was the wife. She was not happy about the way all my "stuff" was "stuffed into our garage. There was not room enough for even one car. We had to have more space. Of that we were certain.
The next reason was really important to me. I couldn't find anything because of the way it was jammed in that small space. Hunting for the right tools and supplies was taking too much time and taking all the enjoyment out of the projects. There was just no room to organize.
The last and most important reason was that I did not yet own an impact driver, and having heard that they are awesome, I wanted one pretty badly. I have come face-to-face with my problem - I am a tool nut. Creating jobs just to purchase a new tool is not above me. Because of the new outside storage shed, I had a reason to get the impact driver of my dreams.
I made a list of supplies and materials I would need for my new project. Can you guess what was the first thing on my list? An impact driver. I figured that it would be a reasonably easy chore to get this acquistion approved by my financial manager (my wife), since it would cut down on the time to build the shed considerably. Since impact drivers require less physical energy than regular drills, that is just one more reason for an "old dude" like me to get one.
I showed the list to my wife with an air of confidence that she would put her stamp of approval on it. She noticed that impact driver at the top of the list right away. She questioned the cost, because she remembered the price of the cordless drill "I had to have" for another project. As I explained the "health preservation" strategy I had come up with, she softened and I eventually won her over.
The tool ended up being far better than I was lead to believe. After a day, or days, of driving long screws and lag bolts, my arm did not feel the effects of the physical labor at all. My cordless drill weighs about twice as much as the impact driver. If you have an impact driver, I'm guessing it is your favorite, as it is mine. My new challenge is dreaming up jobs so I can use the impact driver.
The outside shed? It's done, and it has helped to get things organized. And, of course, our relationship has returned to normal, thanks to the amazing impact driver.
