Soul food is most associated with the southern United States. It's comfort food, and while not always healthy, it has a hearty following and offers even heartier meals. There are a number of restaurants in southern California dedicated to soul food. The menus offer mainly classic dishes, though some restaurants put their own unique spin on things. - Simply Sharon's began with the owner, Sharon's, love for offering home-style cooking to her community. Today the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Private parties are also welcome and, if the guest list is provided beforehand, Sharon will design a meal for any special occasion. Breakfast includes eggs any style with bacon, sausage, hot links, chorizo, or corned beef hash, all served with Louisiana potatoes, grits and toast. A variety of omelets are also available. Waffles, chicken and waffles, French toast and breakfast burritos help to round out the breakfast portion of the menu. Appetizers include alligator bites, deep fried frog legs and a spinach artichoke dip. Po boys and salads are also available for lunch and dinner. Main plates include Louisiana fried chicken, fried pork chops, catfish, etouffee, creole jambalaya and liver & onions.

Starters include warm cheese biscuits, southern fried pickles, sweet potato fries and sassafras marinated white shrimp and corn grit cakes. A list of entrees are also available, such as maple whiskey half chicken, mac n' cheese with duck confit, chicken and buttermilk dumplings, steak and eggs and meatloaf made with ground lamb. Sandwiches help to round out the menu. The restaurant is well known for its Sunday Bluegrass Brunch. The menu features breakfast items that include warm cheddar and chive biscuits, grits, buttermilk griddle cakes and Brandt Farms beef cheek hash. Small plates on the brunch menu include pan roasted black mussels and seared albacore chop chop.

Breakfast dishes include grilled French toast, house hashes, farm scrambles, flapjacks, waffles, sausage gravy with biscuits, sausage gravy pot pie and barbecue griddled flank steak. Dinner is a different affair. Starters include beef tenderloin mini tacos, blue crab fritters, wild boar chili, sweet onion rings and smoked chicken chowder. Entrees are also available, such as griddled blue crab cakes, roasted butternut squash and black skillet pork ribs. One of the dishes the restaurant is known for is Andy's sage fried chicken and bacon waffle tower.
